THINGS TO KNOW
Here are answers to some of your most frequent questions. And, of course, if you have a question that isn’t fully answered here, please contact us.
Check-in is from 3pm to 9pm. If you are arriving later than that we will communicate with you for a self-check-in.
Check-out is 11am. You will have enough time for brunch that morning before heading out.
To explore Prince Edward County, a vehicle is essential. The County, nearly twice the size of Toronto, offers scenic winding roads and endless charm. The Wilfrid is just a 15-minute drive to Picton's vibrant restaurants and shops, and 20 minutes to Sandbanks Provincial Park. While there are no restaurants within walking distance, the serene return to our starry-sky farmhouse makes every drive worthwhile. From Toronto, it's a 2.5-hour drive; from Ottawa, 3 hours; and from Montreal, just under 4 hours. We're also an hour from Kingston. For a scenic arrival or departure, take the free Glenora Ferry if driving from the East. Arriving by train? The Belleville VIA station has an AVIS car rental service. For evening outings, pre-book a taxi with The Taxi Guy or use the URIDE app.
Parking is free at The Wilfrid and conveniently located steps from the guest entrance.
We will greet you when you pull in and are always there to help you carry some luggage in.
If you drive an electric vehicle there are public charging stations in Picton, Bloomfield, Wellington as well as at many wineries. Should you prefer to charge your car overnight, we offer overnight charging for $16/night.
Need to get a bit of work done or want to catch up on the latest?
Rejoice! We have free high speed WiFi throughout. The Suite even has a full-sized desk to work at.
The White and The Green rooms do not have televisions, if you want to catch up on episodes or watch a movie, head downstairs to the cozy library room where there’s a large smart tv with all your favourite apps all ready to tune in.
If you want to watch tv in bed, be sure to choose The Suite, it’s the only one with in-room smart tv.
The Wilfrid is our home, we live on the premises and are here to answer your questions and help you out any way we can.
We’re available from 7am to 9pm daily and easily reachable by text or face-to-face chats.
We do not welcome pets at The Wilfrid except, of course, for service dogs.
If you can’t leave your furry friend behind, there is a local pet hotel (https://www.yellowpages.ca/bus/Ontario/Picton/Paw-Prints-Pet-Boarding/7238059.html)nearby where you can enjoy a stay at The Wilfrid and spend the day with your trusty companion – it’s like having your cake and eating it too!
A minimum stay of 2 nights is required at The Wilfrid. To fully immerse yourself in the charm of Prince Edward County and enjoy a relaxing experience, we recommend 3 to 4 nights. For our "Tailored by The Wilfrid" package, a 3-night stay is essential.
There’s only one way to book a stay at The Wilfrid, through our website.(https://www.thewilfrid.com/rooms) That guarantees you the best rate, with no third-party dipping in your pocketbook.
Unlike most hotels and accommodations, our room rates NEVER vary across seasons and between weekdays and weekends. We deliver the same hands-on Wilfrid experience on a Wednesday in February as on a Saturday in August so why should you pay more?
The rate you see on the website covers double occupancy and has no added service or room cleaning fees. It is subject to taxes (you know what they say…). A 4% Municipal Accommodation Tax is applied to all stays in Prince Edward County, as well as the 13% GST.
We take 100% payment at the time of booking, nothing left to settle when you are here.
Our online booking system accepts all major credit and debit cards.
Once you are on-site, any extras you add to your stay or purchases you make at our farm shop can be settled with our secure contactless payment service.
You would like to modify or cancel your booking? Just email us at stay@thewilfrid.com (mailto:stay@thewilfrid.com)and we’ll take care of everything. To modify or cancel your reservation, we'll just ask for the email address you used when booking and the date of your check-in.
You’ll see and accept the cancellation policy as well as our other booking terms when you go through the online booking process. You can also find them at the bottom of the rooms section.(https://www.thewilfrid.com/rooms)
Here’s a quick recap:
- Bookings are fully refundable, minus a 20% administration fee, up to 16 days prior to check-in.
- If you need to cancel a booking 9 to 15 days prior to check in you will be refunded 50% of your booking charge.
- If you need to cancel a booking within 8 days of your check-in, the booking fees are non-refundable, and the reservation is not available for rescheduling.
We take 100% payment at the time of booking, nothing left to settle when you are here.
To see when a particular room has availability, on the Rooms & Booking page, click on the "BOOK THIS ROOM" button on desktop or the "Check Dates" button of a particular room on mobile. You will see which dates are unavailable (crossed out) when you go to select your check-in dates.
TROUBLESHOOTING: If you have recently searched for dates and selected a room, our booking system will hold this booking so no one else books it from under you. If you happen to have closed the booking window, it will also prevent you from booking it...
Simply close all your tabs on your browser, clear your search history and wait a couple of minutes. Go back to our website and start the search over until the room you wanted reappears. If you're feeling impatient, you can always give us a call 438-390-2505 and we'll process your booking through our system on the backend.
Our small window between the 11am check-out and the 3pm check-in does not allow for early arrivals or late check-outs.
If ever you are coming during a quieter period and we can make it happen, we will gladly allow for it at a $70/hour charge. Simply ask us a few days prior to your arrival.
The Wilfrid is an adult-only accommodation (21 years +).
A quiet place to come recharge and disconnect. Although we love children, we designed the Wilfrid experience for the mature traveller.
We have 3-rooms each with private ensuite modern bathroom.(https://www.thewilfrid.com/rooms)
The White and The Green each have a queen-sized bed.
The Suite has 2 sleeping areas each with a queen-sized bed.
If you are travelling as a group, please note that you can book all three of the rooms. Our online booking platform does not yet allow for multiple room bookings in a single transaction, so, unfortunately, you will have to make 3 separate bookings. Be sure to enter either 1 or 2 as your number of guests to book The White and The Green and any number of guests from 1 to 4 to book The Suite.
Even if you are coming as a group, this remains an adult-only accommodation with all the amenities and services of the bed & breakfast. You will NOT have access to the kitchen or any extra services not usually offered at The Wilfrid.
From the house itself to the food, to the uniqueness of the barns and grounds, our place makes for a one-of-a-kind backdrop for any special occasion.
If you would like to celebrate a birthday, anniversary, elopement, or any other occasion for 2 to 6 persons, you will want to check out our Tailored by The Wilfrid (https://www.thewilfrid.com/tailoredbythewilfrid)turn-key stay package.
Please note we are not an event venue and can not hold events for groups outside the guests staying at The Wilfrid.
Start your day with our signature multi-course brunch, included in your stay and served daily from 9 AM (with an 8 AM option in summer). This exclusive culinary experience is crafted for curious palates, featuring 4-5 courses of whole-food creations—no menus, just surprises.
We accommodate dietary restrictions and allergies with care.
For an indulgent touch, add a pre-dinner platter of oysters or caviar to your booking.
While our kitchen isn't open for guest use, a shared refrigerator is available upstairs. For a full culinary journey, explore our "Tailored by The Wilfrid" package, which includes dinners.
At The Wilfrid, we believe in savoring the moment—whether it's wine, beer, or a creative non-alcoholic option. While we skip the traditional minibars, our Cellar (a maxi-bar) and farm shop offer a curated selection of drinks and bites, available daily until 8 PM.
Bring your own libations to enjoy in your room or at our outdoor seating areas. A shared mini refrigerator upstairs keeps your beverages chilled, complete with wine glasses and a bottle opener.
Please note, as a licensed establishment, all alcoholic drinks in the main floor's common areas must be purchased from The Wilfrid Cellar.
You can add a private sauna session to your stay during booking for $85 per person (2 hours). Once added, you'll receive instructions to schedule your session, available from 12:30 PM to 8:30 PM (last session ends at 10:30 PM). Prefer spontaneity? Let us know at least 2.5 hours in advance, and we'll prepare the pools and heat everything for you. Our sauna is exclusively for guests, ensuring a private and serene experience every time.
We’ve lived in Prince Edward County for the past 10 years and we love to share all our top recommendations when visiting the area. When you book a stay with us, rest assured, you’ll be receiving a link to our online listing of our favourite restaurants, wineries, breweries, activities, shopping, wine tour operators… along with our top tips to best plan your time with us.
It’s your insider’s guide to the best this incredible destination has to offer.
On site we have yoga mats for you to use and a scandinavian sauna and water circuit facility.(https://www.thewilfrid.com/houseandgrounds) There is a library room with fireplace, television, games and books, an outdoor fire pit lounge area, picnic table, table in the century barn and big lounge chairs facing our vineyard. You can walk to a nearby winery for a tasting.
We are on a quiet rural road, a leisurely 30 minute bike ride to two beautiful remote beaches and some great cycling. You can bring your own wheels and leave them in our barn for safe storage during your stay or choose to lease out bicycles that will be delivered to The Wilfrid through the County Bike Rentals company.
The Wilfrid is a respectful and inclusive environment. We will not tolerate disrespectful behaviour towards other guests or your hosts, and encourage an open discussion if anyone staying feels unwelcome. We are LGBTQ+ and BIPOC friendly.
We both grew up in Quebec and are fully bilingual in English and French and love to learn other languages. Please share some knowledge with us, we're always learning!
As this is an 1840’s home, there are steps and narrow corridors throughout.
There are small steps to access the guest entrance.
All guest rooms are located on the upper level, up a flight of 16 stairs with a sturdy railing.
All common spaces are on the main floor.
If you need help bringing your bags to your room, we are here to give you a hand.
When you stay in an accommodation that feels like home and is run by a chef (that’s us) it’s tempting to want to hang out in the kitchen. We get it, we love our kitchen, but it is commercially regulated and not available for guests to use.
We don’t offer service to the rooms, but you can call down for coffee/tea outside brunch time and we’ll fix you a tray you can enjoy in the library, outside or in your room.
Come down and pick up snacks any time from the cellar shop and let us set you up with a nice bottle from The Cellar and some fancy glasses.
Don’t worry about trying to fit hairdryers, shampoo, conditioner and shower gels in your suitcase—every one of our rooms is fully stocked.
We carry organic, plant-based Telford soaps and hair products - proudly owned by Prince Edward County resident Claire Telford. There’s even a full-sized clothing iron and board for you to use.
Save that luggage space for souvenirs!
The Wilfrid is in a rural and very safe setting.
You will have a key to lock your room and a unique dedicated door code to enter The Wilfrid during your stay.
Unfortunately, we cannot accept responsibility for stolen or lost items. However, every care will be taken to ensure that any items left on our property after departure are returned to you in a timely manner. Please note, there may be a small delivery charge.
Our accommodation is fire inspected yearly and licenced for an outdoor firepit. Please take a minute to look carefully at the fire safety instructions in your room.
Weather permitting, the firepit is light every evening by your hosts and extra logs will be set aside for guests to add to the fire in a safe manner. Guests are not permitted to start the fire, nor leave a roaring fire unattended - this is part of our Prince Edward County Fire Permit regulations.
While smoking and vaping are not allowed inside The Wilfrid, by the firepit the world is your oyster.
You're on an extended trip and need a bit of laundry done? We can offer laundry service (24 to 48 hr turnaround). Ask us about pricing.
